I appreciate how difficult and scary it can be reaching out for help, but you have already taken the first step by visiting my website.
Whether you are dealing with depression, sadness, anxiety, mood swings, emotional pain, feeling upset, frustrated or confused about the direction your life has taken, relationship issues, family issues, aging parents, parenting issues, childhood trauma, illness or illness of a family member, grief over the death of a loved one, or educational or vocational changes and challenges, therapy can help.
By participating in Individual, Couples or Family Therapy, we will work together to resolve problems and find solutions.
Therapy provides a safe place to explore the emotions, behaviors, and concerns which are preventing you from feeling better or moving forward with your life.
Therapy offers the opportunity to: freely express your thoughts and emotions, to gain understanding and perspective, to develop and practice the skills and tools needed for healing and working through problems, and to implement the changes which will improve the quality of your life and relationships.
The Goal of Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy is to: allow for emotional and psychological growth and healing by offering new ways to think about yourself, your life choices, your history, and relationships and to develop new behaviors, coping and communication skills, identify wants and needs, and set goals to achieve them.
It’s common to have times when things feel overwhelming, hopeless, out of control, conflict driven, or disappointing. At these times, it can be difficult to figure out how to handle things or where to turn for help.
Therapy helps to clarify the issues and find solutions..
Individual Therapy
offers you the opportunity to reflect on your life, gain understanding and insight into yourself and your life, become more mindful of your emotions, attitudes and behaviors so that you can identify, choose and maintain a self determined and fulfilling life.
Couples Therapy
helps to resolve the big and small conflicts, problems and disagreements. Couples have the opportunity to have honest discussions, learn how to communicate easier, redefine life goals and plans, deepen emotional connections, build or rebuild a strong foundation and start enjoying each other again.
Family Therapy
helps with family transitions (separations, divorce, stepparent issues, death of a family member and aging parents) and
parenting issues in general, especially if you have a child or teen who is struggling, the goal being reestablishing healthy and happy relationships.
As a former cancer patient myself, I understand that dealing with a diagnosis of cancer requires a specialized recognition of the emotional, psychological, physical and life altering changes and challenges that accompany the diagnosis and treatments.
Children, teens, young adults, adults and seniors face different developmental challenges when dealing with the diagnosis and treatments of cancer.
When a parent has cancer children and teens have special needs. My extensive experience in this area can help educate and guide you so that you can help your children through this emotional time and provide them with a roadmap of resilience and skills which they can take with them for their entire life.
Specialized End of Life and Grief Therapy for patients and family members
This specialized treatment focus helps you and your family members learn how to manage this disease so that the physical and emotional side effects are minimized and your quality of life is maximized.
Losing Mom: A Family's Journey of Transition, Hope and Perseverance
Losing Mom is a novel that gives voice to the emotions, thoughts. fears, and concerns that children, teens and young adults face when their parent has a life threatening illness.
Losing Mom educates and empowers parents to help them address the needs of their children. This is especially important if you are a parent with a terminal disease.
Telehealth presents a new progressive way of receiving individual therapy when distance or physical difficulties get in the way.. This is especially helpful for cancer patients when the physical side effects are over bearing or it is difficult to find a psychologist who specializes in helping cancer patients.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, my practice has encompassed inpatient and outpatient, medical and psychotherapy settings, for children, adolescents and adults.
In 2000, I co-founded the Center for Cancer Counseling, a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to providing individual, family, couples and play therapies, in English and Spanish, as well as home and hospital visits, for cancer patients and their family members. Donations and corporate sponsorships make it possible for us to provide our services for free to those who are uninsured or underinsured.
In 2012 I published “Losing Mom, a family’s journey of transition, hope and perseverance” a novel that is a tribute to the families whom I have had the privilege of working with. Losing Mom offers an inside look at what children, teens and young adults, think, feel and need when their parent has terminal cancer.
In 2015 I had the honor of contributing a chapter to the Handbook of Long Term Care of the Childhood Cancer Survivor titled “Resiliency in Childhood Cancer Survivors : A Clinicians Perspective”.
I earned my Ph.D. from California School of Professional Psychology San Diego, have maintained a private practice for over 30 years, and am a two-time cancer survivor.
